As we mentioned, missing natural teeth need to be replaced for many reasons. Aesthetic reasons come to mind first, but they are not the only ones! Indeed, it is important to know that our teeth hold each other in place, helping neighbouring teeth and those on the opposite jaw. When a gap is created by the loss of a tooth, the remaining teeth will inevitably shift to fill this gap. This will cause several problems, including:

• The remaining teeth will be misaligned and the gaps between them will be evident.
• Teeth cleaning is more difficult because interdental gaps will collect more bacteria and food residues. These gaps can be difficult to reach when cleaning your teeth.
• Loss of chewing ability. The tooth on the opposite jaw becomes useless because it doesn’t have another tooth on which to get support. Over time, it is likely to uproot and also fall.
• Premature wear on the remaining teeth that have to perform the duties of the missing teeth.
